"Mel’s visit was transformative, and I am so glad our paths connected and that they were able to come into our school and share their art and their culture.
Mel spoke about what it means to be an artist, what it means to be a Mi’kmaq artist, how their art can be experienced, how they are combining a traditional methods with modern technologies, their artistic process, and how to challenge ourselves to make change with our art.
Mel’s words were encouraging and inviting, and they made so many of my students excited to make art that is authentic to them.
The sensitivity with which Mel spoke and the depth with which they explained the path they have forged with their art was moving and it helped my students realize their power."
